Fiona Basile is based in bayside Melbourne, Australia, though her work has taken her around the world, immersing her in diverse cultures, communities and landscapes,
which shapes the way she sees and shares stories.

Her work spans photography and writing, editorial and commissioned storytelling, photographic books, exhibitions, author talks, presentations and workshops. Whether working with individuals, businesses or community organisations, Fiona brings curiosity, warmth and a deeply personal approach to every story she tells.

Get lost with this fluoro-capped swimmer in the deep, inky purple ripples out deep. Head up, looking out toward the pole in the distance and the soft pink yellow light across the horizon. I get lost in this image and want to dive in all over again.

Each photograph is printed on the Mornington Peninsula, on fine art MOAB matt paper using Giclée printing process for beautiful pure crispy whites and deep luscious colours.

Hands Up

When walking out into the water, deeper and deeper, there is that moment when the cold hits your upper chest, and the arms go up. This photo was taken in November, when the weather and water temperature can still be on the cooler side. This is the moment of trepidation, before finally making the move to ‘suck it up and dive in’. And we’re never disappointed when we finally do dive in.

There’s no doubt the hot topic this March was ‘when will the tomatoes be ready?’ Families across the state, including ours, had been anxiously keeping an eye out throughout February, in eager anticipation of ripe tomatoes, with texts and calls making the rounds each week: Are they ready? The excitement of ripe tomatoes centre around our annual Basile & Co Passata-Making day, when the Basiles, with extended family and friends, gather to make sauce.

The joy of being disconnected

I recently spent five days alone at a friend’s home on a small bush block located just outside the quaint seaside town of Port Fairy on the south-west coast of Victoria. I say ‘alone’, but, in fact, I had the company of three alpacas, four chickens, one cat, and a large fruit and vegetable patch, which was bursting with organic life, and ready-to-eat produce.
