The Next Wave is Fiona Basile’s latest photographic coffee table book that celebrates an ever growing and diverse community of open water swimmers in bayside Melbourne.
Hi, I'm Fiona.
I'm an internationally award-winning photographer, writer, storyteller and speaker, capturing the people, places and moments that matter most.
Through photography, writing, beautifully crafted books and speaking engagements, I tell stories that celebrate connection, reveal the beauty in everyday life and preserve what matters for generations to come.
At the heart of my work is a belief that our stories connect us—and that when we take the time to truly see and listen to one another, we understand each other a little more deeply.
Immerse is Fiona Basile’s internationally award winning photographic coffee table book that celebrates the beauty of the ocean and the joy of a special open water swimming community.
Fiona Basile
Fiona Basile is based in bayside Melbourne, Australia, though her work has taken her around the world, immersing her in diverse cultures, communities and landscapes,
which shapes the way she sees and shares stories.
Her work spans photography and writing, editorial and commissioned storytelling, photographic books, exhibitions, author talks, presentations and workshops. Whether working with individuals, businesses or community organisations, Fiona brings curiosity, warmth and a deeply personal approach to every story she tells.
Her internationally recognised photographic books Immerse and The Next Wave reflect this approach, bringing together compelling imagery and personal stories to explore community, belonging and our connection with the natural world.

Get lost with this fluoro-capped swimmer in the deep, inky purple ripples out deep. Head up, looking out toward the pole in the distance and the soft pink yellow light across the horizon. I get lost in this image and want to dive in all over again.
